HOW true is it that Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya has made the first salvo against Rep. Rufus Rodriguez? Nacaya is running for a congressional seat in the 2nd District, pitting himself against a man who has done a lot for his district, well-loved by his constituents, including the Chinese-Filipino community.
“I am compelled to vote for him because he is my relative. But to be honest, he does not stand a chance against Rufus.” I can understand my friend for his statement. He was just being honest.
Here’s another message for Nacaya from a classmate (?): “Ian, sulayi sa otro pagdagan sa Nazareth kung makadaug ka pa. Dili gani tingali ka makadaug sa lapa-lapa, sa ulo pa kaha?”
What Nacaya said of Rufus has been ably answered by Zaldy Ocon. For all the criticisms raised by Nacaya against Rufus, it only shows that Nacaya is blind to the evils in city hall for millions of good reasons.
Rufus has always played it safe, not wanting to create enemies out of anyone, friends or foes in politics. Many have tried to egg him into taking a stand against the “lord” but with futility and without success. Some were dismayed while some tried to understand his politics.
This time, with the attacks against him by Nacaya, Rufus should make a clear and strong stand and show which side of the fence he belongs. Otherwise, some people may just be finally turned off.
Nacaya’s candidacy is the lord’s. It is a proxy candidacy. Nacaya wouldn’t say those words without the go-ahead of the lord. Thus, it should now be clear to Rufus what to do. His followers are just waiting, I mean really waiting.
Here’s a brief message from a die-hard Rufus follower: “This is it, congressman. Don’t fail us!”

I may not like the color of the flyover, but I hate what the vandals did to it. I saw the ugly things on the side of the flyover. How could they do that? Unsay bay nasulod sa inyong utok, dong?
This reminds me of what our visitors from abroad said. If you allow people to make their surroundings dirty and do nothing, others would think that it is all right to throw your garbage just about anywhere.
Our city is very dirty. Ang dili mutuo, ubanon nako pagsuroy-suroy just to prove my point.
Let me tell you this. The practice of being clean is very contagious and can be very addicting. What I practiced in Agora in the late ’80s and in Osmeña in the early ’90s were enough proof. It can be done today if we only care.
In Agora, when we opened our store, I and our employees began with cleaning our front, including a portion of the street. We had no neighbors then.
When we moved to Osmeña, we did the same and our neighbors just followed. I wonder if this is still being done today.
Try it. Clean your surroundings. Avoid littering. Throw your garbage in their proper places. When there are excess materials in front of your store/establishment like sand or soil, pick them up and put them where they are needed like potholes and the likes.
If you don’t, you will be absorbed by this apathetic attitude.

I am raising chickens. My bantams have chicks, my black hen just hatched six chicks and my other hens are laying eggs. OMG. It’s so exciting! This is what I am going to do when I finally decide to retire. Chickens, ducks, goats and elephants (joke only)!
But I need a bigger place. Do you have a place like 500 square meters, affordable and not very far from the city? Call me!
