MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano on Monday said capitol’s “Misorcares” program would remain service-oriented, and would never be turned into profit-oriented.

“My conscience cannot sacrifice the needs of the poor in exchange for profit no matter how huge it might be,” Emano said before capitol employees.

Emano said Misorcares was designed to provide basic health and social services to the poor via the provincial hospitals. He said the program was conceptualized because “of the sad predicament of the province” when the Moreno administration allegedly left it with empty coffers, and a P1.2-billion debt, including a P244- million debt with Philhealth.

“We were right all along with our original concept of Misorcares as shown by the number of beneficiaries served since we launched the system some three months ago,”  Emano said.

As of Oct. 31, he said the number of beneficiaries reached some 120,730 indigents. Of this, 61,620 received free medicines, 45,541 were outpatients, over 5,200 were admitted to hospitals, over 16 thousand were provided with free laboratory services, and 341 were provided with free blood.

He said Misorcares also provided a 586 “death assistance”––free embalming, free coffins, and free transportation.
