POLICE arrested two of four suspects in the shooting death of a petroleum dealer near his establishment at “Galaxy” on JR Borja Road-Extension in Barangay Gusa, this city, on Wednesday night.

Police identified the victim as Ruel John Mangilala, 42, of Sunshine Village, Barangay Gusa, this city.

Mangilala succumed to five gunshot wounds all over the body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The victim’s companion, Andrei Tomawis, was was unhurt.

The Agora police arrested two suspects during an operation at Sitio Pinikitan, Barangay Camaman-an, this city.

Senior Insp. Leo Huraño, Agora police station commander, identified the arrested suspects as Salem Malik Umalong, 21, and Amron Abdul Karim, 25, both residents of Pinikitan.

Huraño said the suspects were identified by witnesses at the crime scene.

Police said initial investigation showed that the gun attack was staged after the victim argued with some motorela drivers in the area, and that the assailants used a motorela as a getaway vehicle.

He said one of the suspects, Umalong, earlier filed a complaint at the Agora police station against one Tomawis who allegedly attacked him with a screw driver. It was unclear if the Tomawis referred to was the victim’s companion.

“Among gitan-aw sa blotter ang iyang address mao nga nadakpan namo sila sa area. Nakuha namo sila mga alas 12 na apan nakalayas ang duha,” Huraño said.

The arrested suspects were subjected to a paraffin test. The results have yet to be released by the police.

Huraño said Umalong was also identified by a witness as the alleged trigger man.

“Gibaharan kining biktima uban ang witness nga hutdon sila pag-patay sa suspect apan kumpiyansa sila mao nga pagka-gabii gibalikan sila sa mga suspects,” Huraño said.

According to a witness, they already saw the suspects in a motorela parked near the victim’s establishment as early as 6 pm.

Mangilala was attacked just as he was leaving the establishment with Tomawis. Police said the victim was shot at close range.
